February 2010 Letter from the President
Dear Friends of UTC:
As the 2010 Utah legislative session kicks off, we invite you to add your voice to UTC’s high-impact lobbying effort on behalf of Utah’s high-tech, life science and clean-tech communities. This is the season when it is most essential for our state’s legislative leaders to hear from UTC and its members about the most significant priorities facing Utah’s leading growth industry.
Guided by your input, UTC has become an impactful force on Capitol Hill. Each year, UTC and its Public Policy Forum evaluate approximately 800 pieces of proposed legislation. From these, we actively monitor approximately 50 bills of potential interest to our members, and ultimately we identify the ten to 12 that are highest priority for Utah’s technology industry.
In recent years, UTC member executives have led the effort to develop and pass some of the most significant and innovative economic legislation in the country—from the Engineering Initiative to the creation of the Utah Fund of Funds to the Utah Science Technology and Research (USTAR) programs.
There are a variety of ways you can add your voice to our industry’s efforts on Capitol Hill, from policy strategy and formulation to direct advocacy at the State Capitol. The UTC Public Policy Forum meets each Friday afternoon throughout the Utah legislative session—the 2010 session runs from January 25 through March 11. To get involved in the UTC Public Policy Forum, contact Aaron Lee via email at alee@utahtech.org or telephone at 801.568.3500.
I also invite you to participate in our February events. You can find more information here. Our annual Legislative Leadership Breakfast with Senate President Michael Waddoups and Speaker David Clark, will be held February 25 at Little America. For more information or to sign up, click here. Please invite your two legislators to come and join us.
I look forward to interacting with you in our Public Policy Forum, at one or more of our events, on Capitol Hill - or best yet, all of the above!
Sincerely,
Richard R. Nelson
