Women Entrepreneurs Realizing Opportunities for Capital

Why do women-led companies have a tough time raising money from investors? Why do investors have a tough time funding women-led companies?

Do women lack creativity? Do they lack leadership? Are they less innovative?

Do these questions make you uncomfortable or angry? GOOD! Because these are some of the perceptions that must be overcome for more women entrepreneurs to achieve success.

What is perception and what is reality?  Is there a funding bias against women?  Or maybe women do not present fundable ideas or make fundable presentations.  What are the reasons why women have a more difficult time than their male counterparts in finding capital to start or grow their businesses?

The WeRoc Conference is a one-day event to be held October 26, 2017 at Salt Lake Community College to investigate the “WHY” and the “HOW”.  Why do women-led companies have a more difficult time raising capital, and how can we change mindsets and shatter perceptions?

The WeROC event is targeting female and male influencers and investors who focus on investing in women-led companies and women entrepreneurs looking to overcome the hurdles of raising equity for their companies.

Carolyn Rodz will be the first keynote after the opening introductions. Carolyn is the founder of the Circular Board, a collaborative accelerator for women entrepreneurs. Carolyn is an advocate for women in business, connecting aspirational female entrepreneurs to the capital, resources, mentors and partners to fuel their growth.

Following the keynote address, there will be two panels – one panel will focus on WHY it is difficult for a woman entrepreneur to raise equity funds for her company. The second panel will focus on HOW a women entrepreneur can overcome the challenges: Are there tools that can be used? Can a potential bias be changed? What are the next steps?

Lisa Conte, CEO, Jaguar Animal Health, will provide the keynote address at lunch with her personal story of persistence and innovation in successfully raising $400 Million for her companies.

In the afternoon, four regionally pre-selected women entrepreneurs will each present their company in a ten-minute “pitch” to a panel of venture capitalists, investors and influencers. The panel will be encouraged to give candid, direct feedback to help the presenters raise funds.  These companies will have been guided through the VentureCapital.org mentoring process.

A reception for all participants will follow where the investors, influencers and entrepreneurs will be able to network and discuss the topics that were presented during the day.
